In the Mansion's Study, Adam discovers four letters written by a person whose initials are "RJ" and which are directed to Florentine. Three of the letters are scented and inside envelopes (1-3), whereas one lies crumpled up on the floor by the fireplace (4).

My best wishes go to you and the Order as the day of the 6th Breaking draws close.
I must admit to feeling a sense of regret that I cannot be there to participate in the ceremony and to at last see the Chamber of the Seals that you have talked of so often but as you know my business takes me elsewhere. The books and manuscripts that you require I have located within the Bibliotheque [sic] Nationale here in Paris. Their records are vast. You should see them Claude, it is staggering. I have made friends with one of the librarians Jean-Paul and he has promised to let me see what you require.
Please write soon as I believe that I may be here some time.

Ich sende Dir und dem Tempelorden meine besten Wünsche zum bevorstehenden Tag der Sechsten Zerbrechung.
Ich bedauere, daß ich der Zeremonie nicht persönlich beiwohnen kann, um endlich selbst die Kammer der Siegel zu sehen, von der Du so oft gesprochen hast. Aber wie Du weißt, führen mich meine Aufgaben leider an einen anderen Ort. Ich habe in der hiesigen Pariser Nationalbibliothek die Bücher und Manuskripte gefunden, die Du benötigst. Du solltest sie sehen, Claude, es ist großartig. Ich habe mich mit einem der Bibliothekare angefreundet. Jean-Paul hat versprochen, mir Einblick in die Unterlagen zu gewähren.
Bitte schreib mir bald, denn ich glaube, ich werde einige Zeit hier bleiben.

I am assured that my last letter was delivered to you there but I am surprised that you have not replied. You are probably busy with the ceremony and post meetings. Yes that must be it. I have the books and manuscripts in my possession although poor Jean-Paul is dead. A fatal accident. To continue my search I am currently packing for the trip back over to the United States to see what I can find at the University and the National Geographic Society in Washington.

Sicherlich bist Du aufgrund der Zeremonie und den damit verbundenen Verpflichtungen sehr beschäftigt. Ja, so muß es sein. Ich konnte die Bücher und Manuskripte bekommen, obwohl der arme Jean-Paul tot ist. Ein tödlicher Unfall. Ich bin gerade dabei, meine Sachen für die Rückkehr in die Vereinigten Staaten zu packen, wo ich sehen will, was ich an der Universität und in der National Geographic Society in Washington herausfinden kann.

It is hard to believe that there is any other reason for your lack of communication. I cannot believe that you have fallen from love. As is revealed in the latter part of the game, the author of these letters is actually Rebecca, a fact which indicates that she not only is much older than she appears to be, but also that she used to be in a romantic relationship with Florentine. The initials "R" and "J" hereby stand for "Rebecca" and "Jane", respectively.
Apparently, Rebecca uses a different perfume nowadays, otherwise Adam may have become somewhat suspicious.
